WandaVision follows the misadventures of Wanda Maximoff, a former ally of the Avengers with powerful Chaos Magic at her beck and call, based on the Marvel Comics character commonly known as the Scarlet Witch. In the miniseries, Wanda and her husband Vision are trying to live a normal life and hide their powers from the neighbors while raising their two kids in Westview, New Jersey, until reality starts to break shift around them, uncovering a far more sinister and emotionally charged situation than the audience first perceives. WandaVision and its stars were a hit, garnering several Emmy nominations after the miniseries aired.

One of the most popular characters from the miniseries was Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha Harkness, who played the role of an overbearing neighbor until she revealed herself as the main antagonist of the show. This popularity led to Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige hinting at her impending return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which materialized in the form of the upcoming Agatha: Coven of Chaos project. While the titular role was obviously going to be taken up once more by Hahn, an interview granted to Vanity Fair revealed that fans will also get to see more of Caulfield Ford’s Sara Proctor, who plays the role of Dottie when under Wanda’s spell.
Despite the positive nature of the news, the actress’ confirmation came under less than auspicious circumstances, as the bulk of the interview centered around the actress coming out to discuss her previously under-wraps multiple sclerosis diagnosis and how it’s been affecting her even during the production of the groundbreaking genre fiction miniseries. “I’m so tired of not being honest,” she revealed while discussing her reasons for making the diagnosis public. “And beyond that, my daughter has changed my perspective, as I think anybody who is a parent can attest. I know that she has a 30% greater chance of coming down with this, just luck of the draw for her. She’s six. She’s just started first grade…. It got me thinking about her and how full of joy and active she is, and she’s just such a remarkable little creature.”
The interview also touched on some of her work from before her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut, including the popular supernatural series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which recently saw allegations from Ford and others lobbied against showrunner Joss Wheadon in light of more recent accusations of misconduct brought up by Justice League’s Cyborg actor Ray Fisher.
While the serious condition did not stop her from delivering a wonderful performance that had fans wildly speculating about the nature of WandaVision’s Dottie, the revelation that she did so under such duress is sure to give fans a deeper appreciation for her performance, as well as the bravery and dedication she has shown in reprising the role for the upcoming Agatha project. While much isn’t yet known about the project yet, it is certain to be an entertaining affair with Jac Schaeffer attached to write and executive produce the series.
Agatha: Coven of Chaos is set to release on Disney Plus in winter 2023.
